Write a letter in our community's Torah

Torah scrolls in embroidered covers inside an open ark

$9,796 raised of $40,000 · 11 gifts · 180 days left

For fifteen years we have read from a borrowed Torah scroll. This year our community is writing its own — 304,805 letters, each one written by hand in kosher ink on parchment by a scribe in Jerusalem. Every letter can be dedicated: in honor of a child, in memory of a parent, for the health of a friend. Your name and your dedication go into the scroll's book of honor, and you'll be invited to write a letter yourself at the completion ceremony next spring. A Torah that our children's children will read from, and that you helped write. It doesn't get more permanent than that.

I give monthly because I remember my first Friday here, when I knew nobody. Somebody paid for my seat that night. Now I pay for someone else's.

Questions

Questions about giving

Is my gift tax-deductible?

Chabad of First Light is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so your gift is tax-deductible to the extent the law allows. A receipt is emailed to you right away.

Can I dedicate my gift?

Yes. Add "in honor of" or "in memory of" and a name on the form, and we'll mention it at the next Shabbat kiddush if you like.

How do I change or stop a monthly gift?

Email or call the office and we'll change it the same day.

Is giving online secure?

Yes. Your card goes straight to our payment processor and never touches our website or our files.

Can I give in someone's name for a yahrzeit?

Of course. Many people give $18, $36 or $180 on a parent's yahrzeit. Choose "in memory of" and write their name.
